Color of Sin ~ Food for Thought

I was helping a dear sister in Christ write a paper on racism in response to a video shown in her ethnicity class. As we were making edits, revising words, and refining this paper, it became evident that racism is everywhere. Although I knew this already, it was more transparent today. It is a shame that people judge others based on the color of their skin, the way they walk, the clothes they wear, the house they live in, and all that other outward stuff. If we stop for a moment and reflect on Christ and who he hung out with, we will see that he did not judge others while on the earth, but rather embraced the different, the outcast, the shamed. Yes, he called sin sin, but he did not judge the person based on their sin. He still loved them and called them to turn away from their sinfulness and walk in His light.

Society in Biblical times is truly no different from today. Everyone JUDGES, everyone casts their expectations and their views on those they encounter, whether they know them or not. The Pharisees, the Sadducees, and the rich men of the time looked down on the lowly, the poor, the prostitute, and the diseased. Who were they, and who are we to judge anyone? Romans 3:23 says that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. When we judge others, we sin by placing ourselves in the throne of God, for only God has the power to judge; only his Son is perfect and can cast judgment on others.

Romans 14:10 You, then, why do you judge your brother? Why do you treat them
with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

The problem with the human race is that we try to correct racism by demeaning and calling out those that practice it, which is truly the wrong approach, for racism is not based on the color of a person’s skin, but rather on the attitude and character of the mind and heart of those who judge them. They judge based on what they see, rather than by what is true and what is in the heart. They judge based on appearances and insecurities, rather than by the fruit of the person’s actions.

2 Corinthians 10:7 You are judging by appearances. If anyone is confident that they belong to Christ, they should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as they do.

Matthew 7:1-5 Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.  Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?  How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

We are not to judge others according to their appearances, for all are from God and no man is able to boast of themselves, or put themselves above anyone else, for, I say it again, all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Not just some, not just a few, not just one particular race, not just one culture. No! Everyone, all, each person that lives and breathes has sinned. No man or woman is better than any other man or woman. And if you are trying to compare yourself to someone, consider this: if you say you are good, what are you comparing that to? Mother Theresa was good, and have you given all you own to the poor and sacrificed your time, your energy, and your desires to help others in need? Hmmm. Are you really good? That good? And if you feel someone is bad, consider this: are they as bad as Hitler, murdering and destroying all who did not fit his ideal of the perfect race. Hmmm. Maybe the one you call bad, isn’t so bad after all. My point is that good and bad are relative terms, non definable by human definition. Are you as good as God or Christ? I think not, for they are perfect and can do no wrong. Are others as bad a Satan? I think not, for they are creatures of God, given breath by the very same God that gave you breath. Think about it!! We all lie somewhere in the middle of Mother Teresa and Hitler. We all harbor light and dark in our hearts, and we can make a choice of which we choose to serve. So next time you begin to judge and to boast of your own goodness, think upon this scripture:

1 Samuel 2:3 “Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed.

God is a God of love. Christ came to save the world, not to condemn it (John 12:46-48, John 3:16-17).

The only way to change racism, or any other kind of -ism, is to pray for a transformation of mind and heart. We cannot change a person by judging them or condemning them, but we can change a heart or mind by showing them grace, love, mercy, and forgiveness. We can be the vessels that God uses to bring peace, unity, and joy to a world that seeks to divide, conquer, and destroy.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Matthew 5:13-16 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Finally, if you are not yet convinced that a change of heart and mind is necessary, than at least understand that others deserve to be treated with the respect and dignity that you desire!

Luke 6:31-36 Do to others as you would have them do to you. “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

Peace be with you and my you share that peace with all whom you encounter today and always.

God bless! ❤

Going Home ~ CHRISTian poetry by deborah ann

I know the valley is before me,
there’s nothing for me to fear
alone I’ll walk death’s path
but, God promises to be near.

His love shall be my comfort,
His strength will get me through
on the other side of the shadow
His light shines bright and true.

I will go to sleep in darkness,
awake to find eternal peace
His glory will bring me happiness
my joy will never end or cease.

The shadow looms ahead of me,
in a future time that is unknown
but, I haven’t anything to fear . . .
for, I’ll just be going home!

Psalm 23:4

“Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

To God My Life I Owe

For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.
Psalm 107:9

His love He will freely bestow
Refining with mercy and grace
To God my life I owe

Though this world tosses me to and fro
His steady hand holds me in place
His love He will freely bestow

With guidance and wisdom I will grow
His light will consume the empty space
To God my life I owe

Replacing the pain I used to know
Freedom will take its place
His love He will freely bestow

Bringing me higher than the status quo
He promises to endure with me in this race
To God my life I ow

Washing me as white as new fallen snow
My past erased without a trace
His love He will freely bestow
To God my life I ow

You O Lord!

I will praise the Lord according to His righteousness
and will sing praise to the Lord most high.  ~ Psalm 7:17

St Patricks Cathedral

Heavenly Father
You set my heart on fire
Igniting passions I have never known
Giving me freedom unsurpassed
Though life is confusing
Full of chaos and uncertainty
You O Lord remain unwavering
Ready to lead me
Helping me to trust and obey
Filling my spirit with love and compassion
My tongue speaks only Your words
Led by a soul that seeks only You
You are my shelter Lord
Set me on the path of righteousness
Teach me to do Your will
Help me fulfill Your mission for the life You have given me

Blessings Beyond What is Seen

God is always in control, and He has great plans for us. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future! May we continually rest in the knowledge that He will never leave us nor forsake us, and may we all be confident that he is working all things to the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose. God is good!

Trust the Lord…

Totally hits where I am now! Was writing about this today, and attending a Women’s Conference that convicted deeply! Worry is indeed a sin, for it means we do not fully trust and have faith that God can cover us, cover our kids, cover our finances, cover us! Do not be anxious for anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Phil. 4:6 God bless and may we all fully rely on the Lord for all we need!

The Abuse Expose' with Secret Angel

As our lives appear full of problems…
what do we do?
Trust the Lord…
for He will take care of you.

As our children run into difficulties…
what do we do?
Trust the Lord…
for He loves them more than you do.

Stress Free?

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.  John 16:33

In this world there will be trouble
There will be heartache and pain
Stand strong in The Lord
Continue to praise His name

Struggles will come and go
Difficult times will arise
Hold tight to the One True God
Look toward the heavenly skies

Mistakes will be made
Regrets creep up from the past
Let The Lord bring you through
Know that this too will pass

Trials will overwhelm
Tribulations test endurance
Rest in the refuge of God
Sit at His throne with confidence

Satan will attack with might
Causing the mind to go askew
Trust in The Lord
He will bring you through

In Time….

Sometimes, as we journey through this life, we make mistakes and then we have to clean up the mess!   However, it is through the clean up process that we build character, learn perseverance, and build our trust and reliance on God.  Though the process is sometimes difficult, the rewards are well worth it if we let God move through the mess, the clean up, and the learning.  He will guide.  He will protect.  He will strengthen.

For I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose.  For those God foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be firstborn among many brothers.  Moreover, those he predestined, he also called; and those he called he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified.  What then shall we say to these things?  If God is for us, who can be against us?  Romans 8:28-31

The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid.  What can man do to me?  Psalm 118:6

As a child of God you stand in the protection and refuge of the all knowing, all powerful, never changing, abundantly loving God of the inverse.  He has great plans for you and knows exactly how to get you there.  Will you make some mistakes along the way?  Will you detour now and again?  Will you struggle and be tempted to stay true to who God designed you to be?  Of course!  Everyone does! But God remains, and if you remain in Him, He will bless you indeed!

May the God of mercy, grace, and love keep you always in his arms, and may you trust and rely fully on Him for all you need!

With much love and prayers!

hope 9

In this world there will be trials and troubles (John 16:33), of this I am sure!  God never promised us a walk in the Garden, with the exception of Adam and Eve who let go of all that God had laid before them in a single moment.  Since the first day sin came in to existence, when Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit, man and woman have been struggling.  But take heart, our struggles are not in vain.

God takes the struggles, trials, and extremes of life, and brings strength, perseverance, and hope (Romans 5:3-5) to the human heart. Never are you left to traverse the chaos of this world, nor the consequences of your actions alone. God promises that He will never leave you nor forsake you (1 Chronicles 28:20). He also loves you with a love that never ends (Romans 5:5).

The world may bring pressure and conflict. Your life may be filled with devastation and depression. You may have made a mistake, and be reaping the harsh consequences that have come because of it. However, rest assured, God is holding you through it all. He may give you more than you can handle alone, but He never gives you more than you can handle when you let Him lead. With God at the helm of your heart, you can do all things (Philippians 4:13).

NO matter the battle, no matter the depth of despair, no matter the struggle, no matter the anxiety or fear, no matter the insecurities or longings, no matter the sin…..let God lead you to a place of peace, surety, and comfort.

All my love, and may you find strength in the Lord to carry on, moving past it all!

Hugs and blessings ❤
