Love or friendship?

Today a friend came to visit my church, which was indeed wonderful.  Later in the day that same friend came by to play cards, eat yummy food, and enjoy some fun with my son, another friend, and me.  During the card game, one of the gentlemen started a round if inquisitive questions meant to help pass the time between turns….which I thought pretty cool.

Anywho, the first question out of the gate was intriguing: which comes first, love or friendship, and why?

As we all proceeded to respond, it got me thinking that I should pose a question of the week here which will have the potential to spark some interesting responses and conversations.  Two ground rules….1) be respectful of all responses, even if you don’t agree, and 2) keep the language clean.

With that said, the question that started the evening off tonight is the very same one I bring to you…let the thoughts begin to fly!

Which comes first, love or friendship, and why?

The Present is a Gift Indeed!

Yes, this is a repost from last May, but oh so relevant today as well!  I find myself constantly battling to find meaningful time with God as I go to and fro with all the busyness of life, and therefore I share this again….a reminder to myself to make time, and a reminder to others to be thankful and to carve out time to build and renew your relationship with God!!

The Present is a Gift Indeed!!

Today is indeed a gift, hence the reason it is called the present. An old saying, but nonetheless true! I have been running from one end of creation to the other like a wild banshee with work, parenting, housekeeping, and building a relationship, not to mention Bible studies, worship and Church. I would trade none of it, but man there are those days that I get so busy that I forget what is truly important, what is most valuable in my life.

God is so often pushed to the side as there are so many other things that vie for my time. I squeeze Him in as though He can wait for those 5 minute moments here and there in the car, in the shower, or anyplace else I actually have a moment to be left alone. As I reflect on the last few weeks, I have come to realize that my priorities are out of whack. ALL that I HAVE, I HAVE because God gave it to me. NOTHING is my own, NOTHING have I created, NOTHING have I earned. It is all GOD. Take a look at Deuteronomy 8:10-18

10 When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. 11 Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. 12 Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, 13 and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, 14 then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 15 He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock. 16 He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you. 17 You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” 18 But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

God has provided us with all we have…food, land, house, water and wealth. Nothing comes from us, but from God’s BLESSINGS. Each breath we breathe, each step we take, each thought we think, each word we say, each letter we type are all gifts from God. The car that starts each morning, the job that supplies all the necessities of life, the family that comes along side of us, the church that builds us up all are gifts from God. The home you sleep in, the computer you communicate with, the water you drink and bathe with all are gifts from God. NOTHING is my own, but all beautiful gifts from God to remind me of his covenant to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. They are there to remind me of eternity, to set my mind on things above, not to be taken for granted.

Glancing upon all that God has truly blessed me with has gently reminded me that He loves me so and desires to spend time with me and to be a part of my life, from the mundane to the hectic parts of it. How could I push Him aside when He has so richly blessed me indeed? How could I shove Him into convenient little moments that don’t allow time to really listen to Him? I feel my finger pointing at me accusingly, with “shame on you” emanating forth. When we love someone, we want to spend every waking moment with them, talking to them, listening to them, laughing with them, and basking in the joy of that relationship. God is no different! He loves us and wants to spend every waking moment with us. Should we not desire the same? Yes, we need to live life and take care of the responsibilities God has given us on this earth. However, we need to prioritize and make sure we are making time, scheduling and planning longer than 5 or 10 minutes to sit with Him each day.

Enjoy the gifts of the present and take time to thank and honor God for all He has blessed you with and to hear His still, small voice! All my love to you!

Personal Psalm

There are times in life when you just feel overwhelmed–when your soul feels lost, your heart feels cold or numb, your mind is saddened, and your thoughts tend to wander to the worst case scenario. If you have ever been consumed with fear or hit rock bottom, feeling like you will never get back up, know that you are not alone! You may feel alone, been abandoned by family and friends, have nowhere to go and no one to turn to.  But rest assured that feeling is a LIE straight from Satan!!

You are NEVER alone!  You NEVER have to go through the trials of life alone!  You NEVER have to walk the road of life by yourself!  GOD is with you ALWAYS!  He promises to never leave you and to never forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:5-8).  He knows exactly what you need, even if you feel differently (Matthew 6:25-29).

So when you feel lost or abandoned, are hurting or sad, find yourself confused or depressed…reach out to God!  Let Him fill your heart to overflowing, giving you peace beyond understanding, providing hope for a better, brighter tomorrow, and showering you with love that covers all the hurt and pain.

Pick up the scriptures, open up to Psalms, and make God personal for you!  Absorb his words and let them inspire you!  I have done just that, and found my heart begin to repair, my thoughts start to align with God’s, and my anxiety slowly fade.  When I hit my lows in this life, I have taken many a scripture that inspired me and created my own Psalm–prayer, song, or love letter–to God!  It has been therapeutic to release it all to the One True God who is bigger than anything I face, and who has only my best interest at heart (Jeremiah 29:11).  So take a moment, write your own Psalm, your own prayer, song, or love letter to the Lord…giving him all that overwhelms you!  In release you CAN find peace!

In his love and grace!

Bow down Your ear, O Lord, hear me; for I am poor and needy.
Preserve my life, for I am holy, You are my God;
Save Your servant who trusts in You.
Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I cry to You all day long.
~ Psalm 86:1-3

Personal Psalm

My heart yearns for You
Hear my plea O Lord
Consider my suffering
Darkness dwells within my soul
Keeping me away from You
Hindering Your will
Help me Lord
Heal this unending pain
Light up my soul
Fill me with Your presence
Consume me with Your love

Glitches

Howdy!  Changes abound these days, and my blog is no different.   I have tried to put up differing inspirational musical videos on the “Songs that Inspire” page, but to no avail, it continues to have glitches, therefore, until I can figure out how to best share my love of music, I shall have to take it down.  However, the “Quotes for the Journey” page is consistently having new and inspiring quotes added to it.

Sorry for any inconvenience, but bear with me as I continue to learn how to do all these neat blogging things 🙂

God bless and keep you, and may the peace of God cover you like a warm, comfy blanket in winter!  ❤

Simplify Your Life

And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you?
He requires only that you fear the LORD your God,
and live in a way that pleases him,
and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.
And you must always obey the LORD’s commands
and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good.

Simplify Your Life

Running around in circles
Chasing rules that never seem to end
Holding tight to expectations
Letting life wear you down

Burning out trying to live by the Law
Is God that hard to please?
Are you frustrated by requirements?
Trying so hard to be good

Relax, rest, renew
God knows the flesh and the heart
Perfection will never be gained
His expectations are more simple than that

Fear Him for who He is
Creator of the universe, beginning and the end
Love Him before all others
Stand in awe of His Holy name

Live in a way that pleases Him
Following His word not the world
Give love, mercy, grace, forgiveness
Focus on the eternal prize

Love the Lord with all your heart
Let Him love you in return
Share His love with all you encounter
Be the light He created you to be

Serve Him heart and soul
Set your goals upon the Kingdom
Put others before yourself
Love others like you have never loved before

Obey His commands
These three remain: faith, hope, love
Encompassing all the laws in only one word
LOVE

Naked and Unashamed

God is the God of provision. He gives to all things, great and small, exactly what they need when they need it. You may not have all that you want, but God will supply all you need when you depend on Him. Even the trees of the earth and birds of the air are taken care of, yet you, you were created in His image and are more valuable than any other living creature. He WILL provide when you place your trust in HIM.

“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. ~ Matthew 33:25-34

Naked and Unashamed

Magnificent displays of endurance
Though the winds blow
And the lightning strike
Mighty and strong they stand

Their leaves may fall
Still they stretch their branches to the Lord
Naked and unashamed
Praising Him night and day

Even when clothed in robes of green
Their leaves turn toward the face of the Lord
Shouting God’s glory to the heavens and the earth
Revealing His eternal love

Their roots lie hidden from His view
Yet still the Lord feeds and nurtures them
Touching them deep within
Constantly helping them grow

From this World to Glory

I am so very blessed to have an awesome son who is now a teenager in high school.  He is such a wonderful young man with a heart of gold, and man do I pray and worry about him.  I have always raised him in the Lord and His word, using scripture to encourage and convict, using gentleness, and trying to lead my life by example, hoping that he will faithfully follow the ways of the Lord.  All I can do is as scripture states: Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).   My son is not my own, he is a gift from the Lord, given to me for such a short time.  After his time with me, he will set free into the world and be engulfed by a myriad of views that contradict our Christian beliefs.  All I can do is pray he will hold tight to all he has learned, and constantly return the Lord’s beacon which brings hope, joy, peace, renewal, mercy and grace.

In God’s love may we bring up our kids in the way of the Lord and let them soar as a light in this ever shifting world.  God bless and keep you all.  In his love ❤

From this World to Glory

Oh, my son
My beautiful, wondrous son
You have grown so much
Becoming the man God created
May you know your worth
Feel God’s love for you
Know that you are forgiven and free
Deny the voices of evil
Lies whispered in your ear
Ignore the thoughts that you’re not good enough
The world will beckon the doors of your heart
Tempt you with things
Bringing only momentary happiness
Taste and drink from the Lord
He will fill you to overflowing
Bring you comfort, joy, peace
His mercy is never-ending
He knows your comings and your goings
He thinks of you more than the grains of sand on earth
He knows every hair on your head
You my son are the apple of His eye
Let not the world deceive you
Do not succumb to its wicked ways
Trust your life to Jesus
Listen to the still small voice
Believe there is more to this life than things
Seek the eternal prize
The gift freely given from such great sacrifice
Salvation and freedom from the bonds of this world
Hope for a future filled with glory
I love you my son
Hold on and fight the good fight
When the world is dark and in despair
Know that God will hold you
He will guide you on the path of righteousness
No matter how far you may stray
He will always be there
With open arms and an overjoyed heart
His love never ends
Your rock and fortress He will be
A shelter from the insanity of life
Walk in His ways my son
You are robed in righteousness
Veiled in holiness
You my child are adorned with gifts yet unknown
Blessed beyond compare
Let God bring glory through you
Be an instrument in His hands
A light unto the world

Protector of the Weak

There are times when the battles of life wear you down, challenging you beyond your strength and capacity. You may feel like you are in the depths of despair or that the world and those in it have let you down. You may find yourself confused by the circumstances in your life, uncertain of what to do next. Perhaps you feel like everyone is against you, that you are a failure, or that you have pressure coming down on you from every angle of life. Whatever your situation, know this — The Lord has you!! He protects all who call upon his name, provides refuge and shelter for those who love and seek him, and gives strength to the weak and hope to the hopeless. God bless and keep you always! ❤

we are perplexed, but not in despair;
persecuted, but not forsaken;
struck down, but now destroyed. ~ 2 Corinthians 4:8-9
